One section to go on Puerto Vallarta Highway

The new highway that opened last year connecting us to (almost) Puerto Vallarta cut about 30 minutes off the drive to the airport. Even better was how much more predictable the drive became as we no longer had to factor in an hour buffer “just in case”.

That just leaves just the final 22 km leg from a bit before Bucerias, where the highway drops you back onto surface roads, to the airport. It’s a short section but once complete will likely deliver even greater gains than the 60 km section mentioned above. That area can take 20 to 60 minutes to get through as it’s a fairly heavy commercial area, depending on the time of day. And since we often arrive in Puerto Vallarta at 4 pm we typically hit the worst of the traffic. So, expect (hope!) that once complete we’ll see another ~30 minutes shaved off the drive from the airport. From 2 1/2 hours to the current 2 hours to 1 1/2 hours, will be amazing!

This new section is slated for September 2024.
