Whale Watching

Between Dec and Mar, board a traditional “panga” boat to see humpback whales swimming and breaching directly offshore from Playa Las Tortugas. The whales migrate to our waters to breed and give birth to calves before returning in spring to Alaska.

Early morning is recommended to ensure smooth waters, and it’s advised to go when ocean swells are small to ensure a comfortable ride. Mario will organize the trip for you and provide guidance on when conditions are favorable.

The cost is $225 for 1-6 people, which includes transportation to/from Platanitos where the boat departs, $180 when guests provide their own transportation.

El Cora Waterfall

Cascada El Cora is a beautiful waterfall tucked away in the mountains of Nayarit. The setting is beautiful and uncrowded with refreshing water and wild jungle all around.

The hike down to the falls is 20 minutes and moderately strenuous on a trail that is at times a bit narrow and steep. The trip is well worth it as the effort ensures it only receives light visitation.

It is best to go in the morning to ensure the sun is high while you are there. By early summer the waterfall is but a trickle, so it’s best to go between June after the first rains through March. The drive is 1 hour 20 minutes.

The cost for Mario to transport and guide you is $225 for up to 4 people, and $25 for each additional person (max 7).

La Tovara Nature Reserve

A jungle cruise through La Tovara is a wonderful way to explore the most dramatic wetlands in Nayarit. Located at the base of the Sierra Madre mountains, La Tovara is a series of twisting waterways you can travel by boat through dense jungle. Amazing plant life, birds, crocodiles, jaguars, ocelots and fish all call this wild place home.

Mario will transport you from Playa Las Tortugas to La Tovara. After your cruise you will visit a historic Spanish fort and have lunch at a nice restaurant on the outskirts of San Blas.

The total trip cost is $225 for 2 people, and $25 for each additional person.
